Chelsea Community Fund
Mission
To make grants that contribute to realizing the vision of Chelsea as a community which mobilizes its resources to meet community needs, organizes to advocate for services, and attracts external resources for local problem-solving.
Overview
The Collaborative established the Chelsea Community Fund in 2000 with major leadership gifts from Clipper Ship Foundation and the Boston Foundation. With their help the Collaborative raised a $1.5 million endowment which is managed by the Boston Foundation. Decisions on grants are made by a nine-member Committee with representation from the Collaborative, City of Chelsea, Chamber of Commerce, major donors and the community. Since 2000 the Fund has approved grants totaling $740,000, most of them going to support Chelsea youth programs.
